Bundaberg Councillor for Divison 7

Division 7 broadly covers
Kensington, Svensson Heights,
Norville and Thabeban.

Ongoing Priorities

Local Drainage

Since election Ross has been a strong voice in solving the city's Drainage problems. In July 2015 Council commenced Stage 1 of a five stage drainage programme to resolve longstanding drainage issues in Division 7 from Thabeban Road south to the Ring Road, bounded on the west by the railway line and Goodwood Road to the east. Other drainage works have occurred in Price Street, Crook Street, Langbeckers Road and Erindale Avenue to assist those residents.
Preliminary design works have also been instigated about Kensington (Crook, Low, Crow Streets) as well as Clayton Road and Ross has arranged for monies to be set aside in the 2016/17 budget to progress these problem areas.

Traffic Flows

Council has approved Ross's motion to link Kay McDuff Rd with the Ring Road to allow vehicles easier access to the residential, commercial, educational and industrial areas of South and West Bundaberg. This work is budgeted to be completed in the 2016/17 financial year. Approximately $2.6 million dollars has been allocated in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 budgets to link Eggmolesse Street to Johanna Boulevard.

This single initiative will remove thousands of traffic movements from residential areas every day.
Ross is also requesting Council construct a set of traffic about Maynard and Miller Streets to enable safe pedestrian access for many residents to ATW Sports Club as well as assisting traffic flows around Norville by getting traffic onto major roads for residents to travel to their  destination.

New Bundaberg Regional Plan

Even though the new Bundaberg Regional Planning Scheme was adopted in October 2015, an amendment is currently undergoing public consultation for adoption in this term of Council. It is imperative that the Planning Scheme be classed as a "fluid" document that adapts with changes in subdivision preference and lifestyle preferences. To have a document "fixed" is a recipe for disaster.

New Development

One of Ross's key goals is to promote industrial development in the Bundaberg region. The recent Bundaberg Open for Development  incentive was very successful in getting new Developments into the Region. Some of these projects are -Super Amart,  Childers Industrial Park, Friendlies Professional Suites. In total 93 projects received incentives generating almost $106 million worth of construction and create 606 jobs once completed.
The recent announcement of the gas pipeline from Kensington to the Port and the go-ahead for the Knauf Plasterboard Factory at the Port (120 construction jobs and 50-70 permanent jobs) will see a big turnaround for the Region and a catalyst for more Development at the Port and surrounds.
